November 4, 2006 … The election is this Tuesday, and it’s been a NASTY, DIRTY campaign - all the ingredients we want in porn, except they’ve been in politics! In the midst of all this, irony strikes with the release of Borat, and a little religious mischief …
“Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” which opens in 800 theatres across the US on Friday, depicts the antics of a hopelessly inept Kazakh reporter in the land of the free.
Created by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, the film takes on every aspect of life and denegrades it with no regard for being politically correct. If you can’t laugh at yourself, you WILL be insulted - everyone is fair game.
The Kasakhstan government, Anti-defamation league and others are already up in arms. Something to do with the chorus of “Throw the Jew down the well.
Say what you will - this film will be a hit and become a piece of pop-culture. CLICK HERE to see the unnofficial webpage out of the UK.
Back to the election, Evangelical leader Ted Haggard may oppose gay marriage, but he does like his gay male prostite massages with a side of crystal meth. Bill Maher had a field day with this one. Go figure - maybe it was the unabashed hypocracy.
But as Maher says, what’s the difference - seems every republican in congress is gay anyway. Speaking of which… Star of Grey’s Anatomy, T.R. Knight leaps out of the closet. Congratulations and good for you! Let’s see how the network handles this one.
And now for some shameless editorial…
So does your vote count anyway?
Yes, Unless you’re in Florida. George and Jeb have that state pretty well rigged! But every where else we need to exercise our right to vote. Does it feel like any one person makes a difference? No. But we do. It’s been a while since we’ve had a JFK, Martin Luther King or Ghandi - so in the meantime, we must raise their spirits within ourselves. Now while I was raised a Republican - a time when their values were about money and business - not invasion of privacy or domination of the masses, I am now a proud gay Democrat. It seems the Republican agenda (overall) is dominated by unethical big business concerns and the religious extreme right - which makes us no better than fractionalized groups creating terror around the world. Under Clinton’s Democratic leadership, we had a balanced budget, and you and I, the normal people (read, not rich), thrived. Don’t forget 9/11 occurred under Bush. Oil prices have gone crazy under Bush. Odd coincidence given that’s how their family made their fortune. And Chaney’s Haliburton has done quite well under his watch.
So take back the Senate. Take back the House. Beyond gay rights and marriage some day, we need to be respected in the global community. We need green policies. The majority of the population needs hope. FDR would roll over in his grave at Bush policy and how it’s killed off the middle class.
Whatever your choices - exercise them on Tuesday and VOTE! And while we can’t save the world, remember to help me save a dog or two. Spay or neuter your best friend. Remember - real men have balls, their dogs don’t.
Rock the Vote,
Mark
